Lactic Acid Production by Fermentation of Biomass: Recent Achievements and Perspectives

Lactic acid is an important biochemical product. With the global pollution caused by plastics, especially marine demand for lactic to produce polylactic has rapidly increased. However, high costs of raw materials and fermentation–separation processes have severely limited production. In this study, research trend on fermentation in recent years was analyzed a bibliometric survey, latest progress using different biomass stocks microorganisms summarized. The effects modes coupling methods were analyzed. Finally, microbial strains cooperative polysaccharide utilization are discussed. It meaningful develop environmentally friendly, cost-effective situ product removal technologies, use as intermediate higher value-added products, co-produce other products based biorefinery model.
